Mookie Betts goes 4-for-6 with 8 RBI’s

As so ends my four-game Canada Weekend series. The statistics for the Blue Jays were quite terrible, 0-4 and outscored 31-6 by the Red Sox and Orioles. As a fan without a team — I spend my time following a few teams, and the Jays are one of them — it was painful enough to see this long weekend played out. I can’t even imagine what it’s like for a real fan.

I can’t even imagine what it was like for a real fan.

The day belonged to Mookie Betts, who went 4 for 6, with two home runs and 8 RBI’s, a first for a Red Sox’s leadoff hitter. Joe Biagini’s pitching was inconsistent all day and gave up seven earned runs. The truth is he shouldn’t have been sent back out for the 6th inning, so I think Gibby should be responsible for at least 2 of those runs. Even worse was Glenn Sparkman being left out to dry for seven more runs, getting only one out before getting pulled. That’s the kind of performance that can kill someone’s confidence and maybe even their career.

Game Highlights: The roof was open and it was sunny for the first half of the game. Justin Smoak continues to be unexpectedly the best hitter in the Jays lineup.
