Shoemaker shines in his Blue Jays debut
Signed in the off-season, Matt Shoemaker was a risky addition to the Blue Jays rotation, finishing with an ERA closing in on 5.00 for the past two seasons, and with limited throwing time. What no-one expected, and were pleasantly surprised to receive the second game of the season, was a quality start from Matt. Throwing a scoreless seven-inning with only two hits and seven strikeouts, Shoemaker offered a glimmer of hope for a team in the midst of a complete rebuilt.
The players were excited to celebrate their managers first major league win and did so by dousing Charlie Montoya in a sea of alcohol.
