The slugging 2021 Blue Jays set the franchise home run record

With home runs by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Teoscar Hernandez in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead, the Blue Jays never gave the Orioles a chance to catch up. Vladdy’s towering 450-foot blast was his 47th for the season, tying him for the most dingers by a 22-year-old player. By the time Toronto’s Danny Jansen hit their fifth home run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-1 lead, the Blue Jays had set a franchise record with their 258th.

Alek Manoah threw another gem to end his season on a high note. With ten strikeouts, one hit and one walk through seven complete innings, he was in command of the game all afternoon. He has proven himself to be a crucial member of the rotation, which looks to be a core strength of the 2022 squad.

Even from the stands, it’s clear that one of the best things about the Blue Jays this season is their clubhouse culture. There is a noticeable comfort and camaraderie that has defined the team this season and is probably one of the reasons the team has gelled so well. For example, when Vladdy hit his home run in the 1st inning, it was Alex Manoah who put on the infamous rally jacket. Most starting pitchers are mainly focused on their game and not participating in team shenanigans.
