Trent Thornton pulls his ERA below 5.00 to end his season
While having an ERA in the high 4’s would typically not be a reason to celebrate, 2019 is a strange season. With home runs flying out of the park at historical highs and scoring soaring thanks to a juiced baseball, a 4.84 ERA in a rookie season seems to be a reason to celebrate. After a shaky first inning where he threw more than 30 pitches, Thornton settled into a groove that was frustrating Tampa Bay hitters, who struck out eight times through the first five innings.
It was an excellent way for Trent Thornton to end his rookie season by throwing five innings of shutout baseball.
