Arizona Diamondbacks 2 – Pittsburgh Pirates 1

Ketel Marte’s two-out single saves the day for Arizona

Game Recap | Box Score

If there is any sign that one is watching a pitchers’ duel, ten full innings of scoreless baseball are about as clear an indication possible. While Ivan Nova managed to get through eight complete innings without giving up a run, Patrick Corbin was more dominant through seven innings, striking out twelve Pirates. It was Corbin’s slider in the 80-80 mph range that was consistently fooling Pirate batters. With the slider consistently ending up in the dirt, it has the distinction of not just fooling batters, but making them look foolish in the process.

After a sloppy eleventh inning where both teams scored their only run on errors, Ketel Marte managed a single in the thirteenth to score Jon Jay.
