A tough loss for the Capitales

For the second year in a row, I decided to make my way to Quebec City to catch a baseball game with the local SABR Quebec chapter. While I do prefer the quality of play and energy at the MLB level, there is something that feels old-timey about minor league ball. With a stadium that dates back to 1939, there is something romantic about this field in the St-Roch neighbourhood of town.

The Sussex County Miners dominated the Capitales the whole game and won 10-1. Quebec’s only run came on a home run by Connor Panas in the first, and then they were held in check by a strong nine innings by Jeff Thompson. Thompson ended up giving up a total of five hits and seven strikeouts over his complete game. Arik Sikua, on the other hand, gave up seven earned runs through five innings and saw his ERA at 6.10 to end the day.

Centerfielder Breland Almadova was the standout hitter for the Miners, going 2-4 with two RBI’s and three runs scored.
