The Blue Jays sweep the Orioles after a surprising comeback in the 8th

After trailing the Orioles 4-1 heading into the bottom of the 8th, the Blue Jays exploded for four runs, capped off by Yangverdis Solarte’s two-run home run. The Jays managed to sweep the Orioles with a final score of 5-4.

JA Happ was sharp through four innings, in his last start before being traded to the New York Yankees. By striking out nine, his pitch count was elevated heading into the fifth and managed to get into trouble, giving up three hits and luckily only one run. Andrew Cashner was also throwing a solid game and seemed pretty upset when Buck Showalter came to take him out in the sixth. With a pitch count still under 80, I’m sure he felt okay to keep dealing.

The biggest hole in the Blue Jays lineup continues to be poor Russell Martin who went 0 for 4 and brought his average down to .180. At the end of his final at-bat, he threw his bat down in disgust after striking out. There is something wrong here that needs to be fixed.

The only thing that worries me about this historically bad Baltimore team is the possibility that they will look to Showalter as a scapegoat and fire him. As one of the best managers in the game, he shouldn’t take the blame for the lack of success of this group.
