Game Recap | Box Score
Mariners outslug the Athletics, and Vogelbach homers to the upper deck
With eighteen runs scored it was not a pitcher’s night. This game was determined by home runs, with Daniel Vogelbach defining it with a monster homer to the upper deck in right field. The Mariners have a solid top-of-the-lineup, with Dee Gordon their best acquisition in the offseason. Everything after Seager seems like an unknown.
As this was my first time at Safeco, I explored the park as thoroughly as possible. I can confirm that yes, the food options are probably the most diverse I’ve encountered at any park so far. While concession prices are still insane, like all ballparks, they are a bit below average. The open-air roof also gives the game a good feel, even when closed.
One treat was getting the opportunity to see Ichiro play in Seattle before the end of his career. Given his light hitting and weak numbers, it’s unclear how long they can keep him on their roster.
