Toronto wins 91 games, and finishes in fourth place ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

While fate was out of their hands, the Blue Jays did what they needed to do on the season’s final day, and that was to win. For the second day in a row, they scored ten or more runs to ensure their pitching staff would have the support needed to force the Yankees and Red Sox to win today to keep them out of the playoffs. Unfortunately, both New York and Boston won, relegating the Blue Jays to fourth place with a record that would have gotten them into the playoffs most other years.

On the other hand, Toronto’s season ended with some personal high notes for some individual players. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 48th home run of the season, tying for the AL lead. It also made him the single-season home run leader for all players 22 years old or younger. In addition, Marcus Semien hit his 45th and final home run, giving him the single-season home run record for all second basemen.

While both Guerrero and Semien should be in the running for AL MVP, Robbie Ray will likely end up with the CY Young Award, which shows how solid some parts of this team were in 2021.
