JD Martinez locks in a win for the Red Sox with a 3 run home run
With neither Chris Sale or Marco Estrada particularly sharp, either team had the opportunity to take the advantage. It was the Red Sox’s JD Martinez who took Estrada deep in the 5th with a 3-run home run to take the lead at 5-3. While the Blue Jays tried to crawl back with another run in the 7th, both bullpens kept the scoring limited.
The heart of the Red Sox lineup carried the team, while stars like Mookie Betts were quiet all evening. Devon Travis had a couple of big hits (a home run and a triple), which is precisely the type of game he needs to have to get himself out of his early-season slump. Randal Grichuk has had such weak hitting start to the season that the Blue Jays have to seriously consider dropping him from the lineup, or even the team.
