Philadelphia Athletics 0 – Boston Americans 3

Perfect Game: Cy Young

Game Recap | Box Score

The first perfect game of the modern era was fittingly thrown by Cy Young. While he pitched at a time when hurlers were used in 25-30% more games and expected to complete them, his pitching statistics are still leaps and bounds ahead of anyone else. As this game took place over 100 years ago, there are no more than two or three references online, from the usual sources (Wikipedia and Baseball Almanac).

It’s fitting that the losing pitcher was Rube Waddell, one of the best and most erratic pitchers of his, or any era.
